Metal Wax Review, Deep Cleaning your Horse Trailer, Keeping it New
It was 45 degrees, the metal temp was 64 degrees, January in Colorado, not when you normally think about cleaning your horse trailer. But with horse expo’s all across the country any given month, I have to have my trailer looking good. Anyway I was on my way to Pomona California, were I knew it would be in the seventies and my booth at the Equine Affaire is next to palm trees. A little different from Colorado January. In November, Oklahoma black crickets smeared on my stainless steel nose, making a challenge to clean. Horse trailers are a challenge in general, with aluminum roofs oxidizing and dripping black streaks down the side. In this economy we all want to make our trailers last longer and certainly not look their age. This makes maintenance more important. You want to stay ahead of the black streaks and corrosion. Metal Wax products can keep your trailer healthy. http://jmtdistribution.com/

Using the Metal Cleaner with a small carpet square and then Metal Wax immediately with the Cleaner while still wet, took the OK crickets right off. The deceased crickets were two months old on the trailer. See the snow in the pictures, it was January.
We used the Metal Cleaner and Metal wax on the diamond deck Sider Jacker on my car trailer. Diamond deck isn’t easy to clean and polish, Metal wax brought back the shine I like. Click pictures to enlarge http://jmtdistribution.com/
Water base products, so you can take it off anytime, and not be on a time crunch to get the wax buffed. The cleaner is medical grade fluoride acid, not the damaging citrus acid. You can apply Metal Wax right behind the cleaner and even mix them together. This took me some getting use to, as I’m use to waiting for each process.
Cleaning the outside of your trailer can be easier too. Your horse is hard on the inside of your trailer and the highway department is hard on the outside of your trailer. Keeping your trailer clean can make it look like new longer and preserve value. The new enemy from the road is magnesium chloride. This liquid replaces salt rock and sand as an anti-icer on winter roads, none of which is kind to your trailer.
The grill of my car is pitted because of the magnesium chloride and the fact I failed to wash our car much this winter. Same for your trailer, it will take more cleaning in the winter if you live in cold states like mine, Colorado or the Midwest and Northeast. Looking at new trailers in Ohio at the Equine Affaire last month, several trailers had the pitting and dull surface from driving in the winter. Some trailers travel hundreds of miles to have a LQ conversion added and then towed hundreds of miles back to dealers in the winter.
Acid rain with the chemicals in rain bring new meaning to water spots. There’s allot attacking your trailer and truck. Not all aluminum siding on trailers are high quality. Lower grade aluminum will need cleaned more often just like my cars plastic chrome grill. Some aluminum and stainless steel on trailers is imported from China and it’s not high grade.
Metal Wax products, all color coded for what they do, squeeze lids and carpet squares for application comes in the kit.Green, standard Metal Cleaner, designed for home owners using on facets, window frames, aluminum door sills, anything that needs deep cleaning. Metal Cleaner searches for organics, which is why it doesn’t take much to cover allot . Cleans plastic chrome which is what out cars and trucks have, cleans water spots off glass and metal. Melts the bugs off as it searches for mineral deposits and dirt. Stainless steel has the biggest pours of steel, making it hard for other cleaners. The cleaner uses chemical reaction, you don’t need to rub it in, just wipe it on and watch it work. It’s a liquid peeler, not a grinder. Lots of products on market just grind on the surface and keep turning your rag black for the metal is wearing off.
Pumas and ammonia in harsh cleaners grind the metal to clean. Windows with heavy mineral deposits in the glass pores need a cleaner that seeks out the organics. Boats with stainless steel banisters and railings clean well with Metal Cleaner. Fiberglass hulls on boats, turning brown at the water line are tough to clean, Metal Cleaner goes in pores and cleans out. Some horse trailers have fiberglass roofs and fenders and clean well with Metal Cleaner.
New GM truck bumpers have large chunks of plastic chrome and will pit from Magnesium Chloride on the roads. You’ll need to clean them often with Metal Cleaner in the winter. Metal Cleaner is a medical grade fluoride acid, safer than the citrus acid used in truck stops. Metal Cleaner High Performance HP Metal Cleaner is concentrated to dilute for the big jobs.

Above Mike and Mark demonstrate Metal Wax products on my trailer, tool box and all the surrounding trailers at the Equine Affaire at Ohio in April. Check my EZ Connector Horse Expo Tour to see when we’ll be demonstrating near you. Picture left, shows my sad car trailer fender. Below, my son works on the steel fenders on my car trailer. For some reason flatbed car trailers look like they get the most abuse. The fenders get trashed and the paint gets sand blasted. Using all the Metal Wax products brought the shine back to the flatbed.
