aFe 54-11022 Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Install, battery box & air box replacement. 13hp and 67 torque improvement. Stage two

aFe did it again. The 7.3L Power Stroke battery box replacement version has been out for a while. Now aFe has done the same powerful version for the 6.0L with the biggest gain in power you'll see from a cold air intake system.

aFe intake systems are permanent filters. You just clean them, treat them and keep on using them. This filter has the pleated filter in the end also for increased air volume. The factory system is so limiting compared to the aFe open all around filter. Air volume is the goal here. According to aFe, the extra torque from this intake kit, is in the lower R.P.M. band where the Ford needs it. The 7.3L Power Stroke, had a torque peak at 1600 R.P.M., but the 6.0L Power Stroke is at 1800 R.P.M.

Stage two, means you replace the intake tube to the turbo also. This allows maximum air flow, with smooth connections inside the pipe. aFe does this well, with beveled connections. The air tubes are molded plastic, which is easier to angle around the engine compartment than metal as well as staying cooler.

  • 100% poly urethane construction – Durable, resistant to high temperature and chemicals
  • Deep pleats – Greater flow and dust holding capacity
  • Rounded pleat geometry – Better airflow characteristics
  • Full or modified velocity stack – Better airflow characteristics
  • Washable/reusable filter media – Longer service life

If you plan on modifying your trucks power more, this product will be a key in having the extra oxygen to make it work.

As usual, it takes about twice as long for the average person to install a cai as the instructions state. I took us about 2 hours. Fitting the rubber hoses between the turbo and the filter was the most difficult part. It's just a tight fit. I would complain more with a loose fit. The battery cable hole in the filter box was off about an inch. We used the filter minder (dirt indicator) again, some folks get rid of this with a permanent filter, but I like a warning system. This fit tight also.

Air mass sensor was easy to move to the new housing. The old battery box, cover and brackets all go. The new air box will hold the new filter and battery. We didn't use the battery cable bracket that came with the kit. Installing aftermarket accessories requires common sense.

The old system, all enclosed and restricted.

The mechanic and his box.

54-110022 for Magnum force filter, 75-11022 for Proguard 7.

All the new parts. It all comes off, from the turbo to the grill.

Straight shot from the air box to the turbo.

It's too big for a paper weight.

Air mass sensor comes off the old air tube and fits well on the aFe tube. Stock filter, what a waste, throwing the center section away at each filter change. Reaching the turbo takes long arms.

The battery box must go, all the way to the fender. The new box just bolts to the finder.

The battery cable hole was a little off.

The tube fit well,  a little harder fit at the filter housing. Still using my Hitch Mate to reach the engine.

The truck even looks more powerful.

Even a nifty decal.
